Fun, elegance set for Jan. 15 gala The community is gearing up for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce's first Annual Dinner of the new century. The Chamber's 95th Annual Dinner will take place on Saturday, January 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Some 400 guests are expected to attend the Chamber's once-a-year evening of glitz and glamour—an event that is open to everyone in the community. "The Annual Dinner is one of my favorite events," commented Sandi Sigurdson, Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony. "It's a wonderful evening filled with lots of friends, great suspense (with the announcement of the Citizen of the Year), and great dancing to Oasis." Mike Cannon, President of Cannon Associates, will serve as this year's Master of Ceremonies. A short program will include presentations by the Chamber's outgoing Chairman of the Board Debby Nicklas. Topics will include a review of the numerous accomplishments successfully achieved by the Chamber in 1999 and a preview of the Chamber's goals in 2000. The event will also include the installation of the 2000 Chairman of the Board and Officers and the announcement of the community's highest honor, the 1999 Citizen of the Year. The Citizen of the Year Award is given every year to one outstanding citizen whose contributions to the community are unmatched. This year will be the twenty-seventh time the Chamber has recognized one such individual. The Annual Dinner will feature a multicourse, gourmet menu and guests will have the option of a vegetarian dish for their entree if they so choose. Dinner and a brief program will be followed by dancing to live music by Oasis. Reservations for the dinner are required due to the popularity of this event which sells out early. Tickets to the dinner will be mailed out to Chamber members the week following Christmas. Tickets are $75 each and may be purchased by calling Patti Rowe at 781-2672. |
