Newsmakers/Business Briefs GST Telecommunications has hired Sharon Biddle as Community Promotions Coordinator. Biddle, who most recently served as Marketing Director for the Discovery Museum of Santa Maria, will oversee and work to expand GST's Community Service Program. Unity Christ Church recently announced that they will be opening a new Montessori School in September. Robin Rall has been hired to serve as Director. The Mortgage House, a leading mortgage banker in San Luis Obispo, has announced the opening of its newest location at 1194 Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande. The Mortgage House has three other locations throughout the county. In honor of its 50th year of continuous professional practice, BFGC Architects Planners, Inc. donated $50,000 to the Cal Poly Architectural Foundation. The endowment will fund yearly scholarships for deserving architectural students. Wanda Strassburg was recently inducted into the International Aviation Forest of Friendship in Kansas, the childhood home of Amelia Earhart. Strassburg was honored with a granite plaque marking her as a significant contributor to the world of aviation. Heritage Oaks Bank recently gave three scholarships as part as part of their Heritage Oaks Bank San Luis Obispo County High School Scholarships program. Scholarship recipients include Chris Fraise of San Luis Obispo High School ($2,500 scholarship) and KelliJo Feinberg ($1,500 scholarship) and Brett Larson ($1,000 scholarship) of Paso Robles High School. Cal Poly has won a national fund-raising award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Cal Poly was one of three public comprehensive institutions to receive the 1999 Circle of Excellence in Educational Fund-Raising Award, which recognizes development efforts during the last three fiscal years. Ascot Suites, Morro Bay's newest luxury suite hotel, was recently awarded the prestigious four diamond rating by the American Automobile Association. Ascot shares this prestigious award with only four other properties in San Luis Obispo County. The Sign Place is celebrating its 10th year on the Central Coast. Their branches in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles will be adding outdoor and indoor four-color printing to their house product line. |
